Gluten-free and Healthy

Sometimes when people discover I'm gluten-free, they say something like, "Oh, that's great. You must be very healthy. I should really try that." This takes me off guard, since going g-free wasn't so much a diet choice for me as it was a health necessity. Of course, I DO feel healthier. But it's not like I'll be going g-free this month, and protein-heavy the next, and then onto grapefruit, like some fad diet. Rather, for me, excluding gluten is the equivalent of avoiding a toxic poison that disrupts my body's ability to function properly. So I've just launched my G-Free Health page, for one-stop shopping for everything related to gluten and health. No myths, no frills, just the facts you need to know to feel your best.

Most people who are Gluten Intolerant understand that feeling healthy and avoiding gluten go hand-in-hand. If you have formally been diagnosed with Celiac Disease, then you know what having an auto-immune disorder entails.

I'm in the process of being tested for CD as we speak, so cannot be certain of the source of my Gluten Intolerance. However, I do know that I have had health experiences correlated with Gluten Intolerance, including difficulty conceiving, several miscarriages, severe abdominal distension, shortness of breath, and ADHD. Looking back over the past 10 years of my physical life has been like retroactively doing a jigsaw puzzle. As I was experiencing each episode in real time, I didn't see how it connected to the rest, nor did any of my doctors. I felt that there was something "off" in my body that was being missed, but could never put my finger on it.

Gluten Intolerance is the glue that connects each seemingly unique health problem I was having, from infertility to difficulty breathing. Since going gluten-free three years ago, I've been on a mission to get my own health back on track and to help others do the same. For too long I "cheated," eating wheat despite how I felt and not understanding what I was doing to my body in the process.

That's why I've launched G-Free Health. My goal is to provide factual, easy-to-understand, current information on the relationship between gluten and wellness. You'll find details on what Celiac Disease is and how to get tested, treatment, health risks, and more. It can be difficult to come to terms with a diagnosis of Gluten Intolerance, but I'm a firm believer that information breeds power. And, with the breadth of options available, it IS possible to be a G-Free Foodie without "cheating." G-Free Health can feel and taste good. So eat well, be well!
