Last weekend, a friend and I wanted to go out for brunch in Los Gatos. I did some research and came across a fantastic little jewel called Sweet Peas Cafe and Catering.

What makes it a jewel? Sweet Peas offers gluten-free crepes.

That's right. Crepes. You can order any one of their enticing crepe combos gluten-free. They offer savory, sweet, vegan, and even Benedict-style crepe dishes. Savory crepes range from Beef Briand to Shrimp & Avocado. Looking for authenticity? How about the Lemon Parisian crepe?

I opted for a gluten-free crepe with berries and Grand Marnier (see photo). It was not dairy-free. The crepe was high quality and tasted exactly as any crepe, gluten-free or not, ought to. A couple of bites in, I made a firm commitment to bring my family back for a meal soon. In other words, it was good :)

Not in a crepe mood? Sweet Pea's also carries Udi's gluten-free bread. That means a long list of gluten-free sandwich and burger options to choose from, or the chance to actually have toast alongside your omelet at a restaurant.

I like how Sweet Peas enabled me to enjoy those little things that being gluten-free often makes difficult when dining out. It made me wonder out loud, "Why can't more restaurants simply offer one kind of gluten-free bread or cracker at the start of the meal? Then I wouldn't have to drool over tempting wheat-filled bread baskets!"

Sweet Peas is a very casual, small place, though the Los Gatos location features outside dining on a front patio. No white table cloths or alcohol served here, and you order at the counter. But it has a certain charm and every table was taken when we arrived on Saturday morning. It smelled of good coffee and was dripping with locals. The kind of place everyone likes to go to get started for the day.

Sweet Peas also has a Capitola location and is open for breakfast (served all day) and lunch daily from 9AM-4PM.
